PERSONALITY
Ambitious
Strength: Percy wants to succeed at everything he sets his mind too. If he is going to put in the effort he wants to see a successful result. Success is determined by what both Percy and others perceive as being successful. He likes to be seen as successful in his own eyes as well as by those in positions of authority. Be they professors in Hogwarts, higher-ranking officials in the Ministry, or the crown. His ambition pushes him to work harder and give activities he cares about his all.Pompous
Weakness: Percy can become so focused on his goal of success and his fear of failure that he can and will squander his relationships. He has tunnel vision when it comes to his success. He cares about the praise from those in positions of authority and seeks their approval. While he does not care what his peers think of him, he deeply cares what those in positions of authority think of him. He is ambitious but at what cost?
Strength: Percy would spin his ability to take himself seriously and think himself as important as a strength. He cares about how he presents himself and thinks what he sets his mind to is very important no matter what. The fact he takes things so seriously means he will put in effort and cares about the end result. He will take every role he is given seriously and follow rules and guidelines to a tee. Because he is so "important" everything he does is important and deserves all the best level of effort and consideration.Pedantic
Weakness: He takes himself too seriously. Despite his age he has always thought himself self-important. Give him a prefect badge in Hogwarts and it went to his head. Give him some praise at work or lead on a project and it goes to his head. He thinks he is far more important than he actually is. He really takes himself, his actions, and his life too seriously.
Strength: This makes Percy concerned with things being accurate and precise. It means that he pays attentions to details in his work and ensures what he presents is accurate and complete. He is concerned about formalism and aims to correctly address people. He formally introduces himself to new people. He comes across as detail-oriented and polite. This is also what makes him a stickler for the rules.Loyal
Weakness: However, he is so concerned with getting things right and with formalism that is can be a bit annoying. He can come across as a bit ostentatious and arrogant. He likes showing just how correct and right he is. Percy will go out of his way to correct people. As soon as the word "actually" comes out of his mouth it is usually followed by an eyeroll from people who know him well. Percy will correct you and offer advice whether you wanted it or not. Also, his desire to stick to the rules can make him a bit of a stick in the mud.
Strength: Percy is loyal to the things he finds important and cares about. It means he is dedicated to ensuring he gives his best efforts and will back up the cause or person he is loyal to. He will be passionate about his efforts and will be a strong asset. If he errs in who is loyal to, he usually comes back around and sees the error of his ways. It just might take him a little bit and admitting he is wrong is never easy.Honest
Weakness: His loyalty can be blinded by his desire to achieve. He may put his loyalty into the wrong thing because he thinks it will give him the best result and it will be at the cost of being loyal to someone else he previously was loyal to. He can get blinded by his ambition and talk himself into thinking that what he is being loyal to is right. Though it is right in his mind because it is pushing him further towards his goals. He comes around eventually, but will usually have a lot to answer for and an uphill battle of making up for placing his loyalty where it shouldn't have been. Generally, it is his social loyalties that take the hit and he realizes how much of an ass he has been a bit too late. He is always blinded by that ambitious drive. Luckily, in his short years it has not come up often and is usually an easier fix as he hasn't totally shoved his foot in his mouth yet.
Strength: You know where you stand with Percy. He never beats around the bush. He is brutally honest to a fault and at least you know just how he is thinking and feeling. From the look on his face and the words that come out of his mouth, his thoughts and opinions are easily shared. He is so honest because he does think his opinions are important to share because they are correct. It ties into that whole pompous thing. But at least you know where you stand with Percy.
Weakness: Percy does not really know how to read the room to know when his brand of blunt honesty is appropriate. To Percy, honesty is always appropriate and people need to hear it. This is not always the case. So it does make him a bit overbearing and comes across as harsh more often than he would like. He does mean well by his honest and it isn't shared with any malice or ill-will. He simply does not have a filter or a way to tone down his honesty and sometimes it can feel a bit too much and not appropriate at the time. He has always felt it easier, to be honest about what he thinks and feels of a situation or other people. However, this same level of honesty does not extend to being honest with himself. Sometimes he just gets so caught up he does not realize that how he is acting is not great and damaging things that are important to him (like family or friendships) that he never realized we so important to him.
APPEARANCE
Percy Weasley looks like a Weasley with the freckles and red hair. He is tall at about 5'11 and thin, honestly, he is a bit gangly. Percy tries to appear like he is not all limbs, so he can be a bit stiff at times as he tries to keep his limbs in check. His clothing is a bit mixed. His work clothing is professional and a little fancy. Percy has saved up his own money since starting work to buy better clothing. He really is concerned about his appearance. His casual attire is a lot more warn and mended with magic. Unless he bought it new his clothing is hand-me-downs from his brothers. He tries to have a more put-together. His casual is a bit more formal but still comfortable. He does feel more at ease in more formal attire and hates to look unkempt and unprofessional. If it were not for his desire to appear formal and his glasses he probably would look just like any other Weasley but those two traits make him stand out among his family.
ABILITIES
Strength
Percy is skilled in Charms and Defensive Magic. He is also a reasonably adept dueler thinking quick on his feet knowing what hexes or spells to use. He is reasonably good with Transfiguration but is notably better with Charms and Defensive Magic. Percy would also like to note his knowledge of History is important as well, as it makes him good Ministry employee.Weakness
Potions. He is not exactly that good at the whole thing. He can make an easy potion for sure. However, he is not out here being a potion brewer professionally or anything. He also discovered in school he was rubbish at Divinations. Facts are more what he likes rather than the interpretation signs with some levels of creativity.Skill
Makes a good list. Follows rules and can recite all guidelines and rules at a drop of the hat. He is familiar with the rules around his job as well and will follow them to a tee. He also has a brain for facts, generally about history or government procedure. He would also call not killing Fred and George a skill because those two really push his buttons.
HISTORY
Childhood
Percy Weasley was the third son of seven children born to Molly and Arthur Weasley. While the Weasley family are not wealthy, they are technically High Nobility which is probationary pending service to the crown. In 1963 the Weasley family were deprived of their titles. This is a fact that did not truly impact Percy's childhood but would impact Percy's approach to his life once he understood what exactly the titles meant and how high nobility status could further his career prospects and respect within the Ministry. Percy would find the Weasley status and wealth troublesome when he was older and his ambitious nature really pushed him to pursue work hard for the crown.Sorting & Early Years
Percy's childhood was a pleasant one by all accounts, even if he had to deal with the pranks of the twins who came after him. He was admittedly an easy target for them. Percy's love of knowledge and book was nurtured during his childhood. He was more likely to have his nose in a book or the current edition of the Daily Prophet than to be outside being a rowdy young boy. Though he did leave all decorum forgotten when it came to his love of quidditch. The sport allowed him to easily forgetting his rigid and arrogant self. He was definitely more of a child when it came to quidditch letting his guard down. Though he did not play the sport himself, just enjoying hearing the matches on the radio or getting the odd chance to experience one in person (which was never). He watched his family play in the backyard, keener to be the referee enforcing the rules and keeping score than actually playing.
School was the big life event that Percy was eagerly awaiting. Watching as Bill and Charlie went off to Hogwarts, he was wanting to go. When it was finally his chance he was excited. His excitement shown in his need to prep and pack well in advance and ensure he had everything he needed. Sure it was hand-me-downs from his brothers but he was very invested in packing and repacking everything so he was sure he had it all. His textbooks were read in advance, it was best to be prepared. He also made sure to learn as much of the school rules as possible because he didn't want to make an error upon arrival.Prefect & Head Boy
The sorting made Percy more nervous than he would let on, even to himself let alone others in his family. It was the hat that addressed just how nervous he was. Where would he be sorted? Would he follow suit of his parents and brothers before him? Or would be an outsider, more so than he already was? Percy's desire to be accepted by his family was the deciding factor, there was a moment when Ravenclaw was also called but the hat thought he was better suited for Gryffindor. Percy has never told him quite the experience of being a bit of a hat stall. Though he did aid in teasing his younger siblings about the sorting may be so that they could be just as nervous as he was that day?
In his early years of Hogwarts, it was clear that Percy followed the rules and was keen to report others for stepping out of line. He wanted to feel the appreciation and acknowledgement of his professors he sought out their approval. With two impressive brothers before him, Percy wanted to be thought of in a positive light and make his own impressive mark on Hogwarts history. Every action and decision at Hogwarts was carefully thought out because he wanted to be sure to be seen positively and not harm his chances of being a prefect one day. Yes, Percy really hoped to be a prefect. Though he also felt all the titles and praise even within Hogwarts could benefit him for getting a good job in the Ministry and even more importantly in the eyes of the crown.
It was all worth it though. Percy was named prefect in his fifth year. The day that badge showed up in the post he was wearing it and polishing it and showing that badge the respect it deserved no matter the amount of teasing from his brothers, particularly Fred and George. Percy was over the moon about being named prefect and felt appreciated by his parents when he was given new robes (his first ever) and a new owl (Hermes). Yes, Percy was proud of himself and his ego inflated with the new power and position he had. He took the role of prefect very seriously. Everything he did in the name of prefect he did with integrity and he knew it would only pad his resume once he graduated. He was looking forward because you had to prepare in advance if you wished to find success within the Ministry.Dating
The next big important role he hoped to get was Head Boy. He knew that performing well in school and as prefect that it would help his chances. He made sure to show the professors what a good choice he would be to be named Head Boy and that he was deserving of it. Percy understanding more about peerage and understanding the family position he figured that his performance at Hogwarts could only help. With his grades and both prefect and head boy on his resume, it could only help the Weasley status along.
He was made Head Boy and once more took to proudly displaying his new badge. He felt he truly had left his mark on Hogwarts history. Prefect and then head boy, he was very proud of himself.
Academically minded, his focus was on school and his role as prefect and eventually Head Boy. However, his focus drifted a little. Hormones got in the way. There were butterflies in the stomach when he was around fellow prefect, Penelope Clearwater. She was a Ravenclaw prefect in his year and she was very pretty. Percy never thought she would be interested, yet she was. He spent all summer before sixth year owling her. He didn't even care to gloat about his excellent scores on his OWLS. His focus had shifted to Penelope and he was bound and determined not to let his siblings know he actually liked a girl and had a girlfriend. He just knew they would tease him and make fun of him. He had to keep it from Fred and George. The fact someone wanted to be his girlfriend at all was shocking to him and he did not want to mess it up.Graduation & Starting His Minsitry Career
All young romances come to an end though. Percy found having a girlfriend rather distracting and in the mids of his seventh year after being named Head Boy and be absolutely overwhelmed with studying for his NEWTs he and Penelope broke up. Percy was kind of a bad boyfriend during that time but has never really acknowledged that. It was his first relationship and he was so caught up in how people thought of him and how important this phase of his life was to ensure the status of himself and his family among the nobles.
It was not the only relationship he would have, but the small handful of girls he dated after graduation have been short because he is so obsessed with his work and ensure his success within the Ministry trying the climb the ladder quickly.
Percy graduated with high marks in his NEWT exams and with the title of Head Boy and Prefect under his belt. Immediately, upon graduating from Hogwarts he started looking for work and applying for jobs in the Ministry. Percy has big goals and ultimately hopes to be Minister of Magic one day or head of a department. Rather than experiencing a "summer" he was applying for jobs and attending interviews. He was hired as a Clerk for the Registration Administration in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He was eager to get his start and was a sponge for all the government regulations and policies. He started saving his money to ensure he could buy more appropriate work attire as he wished to dress for the job he hoped to one day have. He really wants to get to have once he has more experience and time under his belt.
Over the past the nearly two years he has been working hard in the Registration Administration office. Just this past spring he had applied for a senior clerk job where he would work with more complex files, review others work and take on some supervisory type roles. He thought he had put in the time and effort as a clerk and was ready for the next challenge. Maybe he was looking to jump up to the next challenge to early in some folks eyes but given his dedication and willingness to learn government red tape he showed he had the experience for the job. Percy is now looking at what the next steps are to his career success and what the next stepping stone is. He is determined to properly serve the Ministry and the Crown and make up for any shortcomings of other members of his family.
GOALS
Move out of the Burrow
Percy is a grown man. He knows he should be moved out by now. But it is expensive out there and he has been using his money to ensure his image is appropriate. Plus mum is a good cook and he has no time to look after things like that. Ultimately, he needs to take that important step in adulthood and soon. He is successful in other aspects of his life but as he is about to turn 20 it is high time he actually take that leap and fly the nest.Serve the Crown
Serve the crown and show the Weasley's are worthy and hopefully the titles can be held. It is a lofty goal for one lad but he thinks he is capable of showing just how worthy the Weasley's are.Department Head
This is exceptionally long term and has many phases to this goal. The further up the Minsitry ladder he can go the better. Percy is seeking out any and all chances to pad his resume and gain experience. Ambitious and career focused is our lad Percy.
